So, if you don’t read this blog entirely through a feed-reader you might be aware that I use a stylized brain as my logo. Some might see this as proof of my ego, however there is a story behind it that I wanted to share today.
Back in 2003, I started a small company called Synaptic Media, for those of you who are unaware, a synapse is what allows your brain to pass messages along… i.e. thinking. Along with that, came Cerebral Cortex, my framework that was the predecessor to a lot of work I ended up putting in to Zend Framework instead.
As part of getting that business going, I reached out to the awesome Colin Viebrock creator of the PHP, PEAR, [the original] Zend, PHPUnit and other logos. Colin was kind enough to design this wonderfully stylistic rendition of a brain for use as my logo.
The original was in color, and looked like this:
So, while Synaptic Media and Cerebral Cortex are long gone, the logo remains, albeit, in it’s simplified one-color form. I have an original Colin Viebrock masterpiece — who would want to get rid of that?
